As CEO developed a natural rubber business from greenfield to profitability over a period of 8 years. The business ultimately comprised 5,200ha of rubber plantation and a processing factory with a capacity of 16,000 tonnes per annum

Rwanda – Deal Structuring & Valuation

Advised a private equity fund on the valuation and structuring of investment in a hybrid maize seed production company. The business was a start up so required a valuation of the promoter’s sweat equity and advice on appropriate envy ratios

South Sudan– Technical Advisory

Advised a plantation forestry company on the selection of sawmilling plant and equipment suitable for use in an isolated and challenging environment. Subsequently recruited a CEO for the business with relevant experience

Zambia – Trade Sale

Advised a distressed Zambian sugar asset on turnaround and expansion. Subsequently assisted the company in having an injunction on the sale of its shares lifted and led a tender process 

Kenya – Deal Structuring & Valuation

Advised a sub-Saharan private equity fund on a replacement capital investment in a bulk grain handling facility. The assignment involved valuation following IPEV guidelines and structuring a deal with clear minority protections

Malawi– Due Diligence & Valuation

Conducted technical and commercial due diligence and the valuation of an integrated macadamia, coffee and chilli producer in Northern Malawi for a private equity fund. Subsequently became a non-executive director of the company

West Africa – Transaction Support

Acted as an independent investment committee member for a West African agribusiness fund with a mandate to invest in 5 West African countries. Advised inter alia on deal structures, management alignment issues as well as technical aspects

Côte d’Ivoire – Business Management

As CEO for Belgian group SIPEF managed an established oil palm business comprising 7,000ha of plantation and 2 x 45 tonne per hour fruit processing mills. Oversaw a turnaround of the business at a time of low crude palm oil prices

Uganda – Deal Structuring

Advised an East African private equity fund on the structuring of a transaction which involved investment in an integrated poultry producer. Participated in negotiations with existing shareholders and drafted term sheet

Ghana & Sierra Leone – Technical Advisory

As an Advisory Board member, advised a plantation forestry company on species selection, site-species matching and appropriate silvicultural regimes for working circles designed to produce timber for different end uses

Tanzania – Due Diligence & Valuation

On behalf of a Norwegian fund, conducted technical and commercial due diligence and the valuation of an avocado orchard in Northern Tanzania. The fund subsequently acquired 40% of the company
